The Dell Optiplex 5050 is a great example of a minimalist desktop computer. Like the Apple Mac Mini, it’s small and compact while using the zippy intel i5-7600T quad core processor (this version). The best part of this system is the capability to use 2 drives as there is a M.2 drive slot on the motherboard, and a 2.5″ SATA drive slot on top. Being able to have two independent drives is a fantastic feature in a desktop this size. Maximum RAM could probably be 64GB, but 8gb is installed as shown. This Dell Micro mini desktop uses an external power source – the super common Dell PA-1650 65W AC adapter (like for laptops). Overall a good value, even if it’s on the edge of official Windows 11 support. Not “officially” supported for Windows 11, but it seemed fast, and worked well (more RAM is always better). It could be a cumbersome install for novice users. We used this method to create a “Windows 11 for all” bootable USB drive for our install.
